About The Creators
Creator, Producer, Design Director, Writer, Team Umizoomi
Soo Kim is creator, producer and design director of Nickelodeon’s new, interactive, animated preschool series, Team Umizoomi. She is also a writer for the show.
Kim joined the Nickelodeon family in 1996 and served as digital design director on the groundbreaking series Blue’s Clues. Her love of the simple preschool aesthetic and the challenge of the multi-faceted digital medium fueled her enthusiasm for the show. She was integral in developing the signature visual style of the Peabody Award-winning, Emmy-nominated series and is thrilled to have been involved in the pioneering stages of interactive television and digital animation production. Kim continued her role as digital design director on the puppet-based spin off, Blue’s Room.
Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Kim was on the production team at MTV Animation, working on a range of development projects and animated pilots, and contributing to the web design for MTV Online. Her career in New York has also included work in film production and theatre. She has produced numerous plays, one-act festivals and staged readings, and has written several one-act plays and full-length screenplays.
Kim is a graduate of The College of William and Mary and currently lives in New York City.
MICHAEL T. SMITH
Creator, Producer and Writer, Team Umizoomi
Michael T. Smith is creator of Nickelodeon’s new, interactive, animated preschool series Team Umizoomi. Smith is also a writer for the series.
Smith joined Nickelodeon in 1995, working on the groundbreaking series Blue’s Clues, where he developed content, wrote scripts and managed the scripting and development department. His script for Blue’s Big Musical Show (co-written with Angela Santomero) garnered a Young Artist Award in the category of Best Animated Family Feature Film. Smith has also been nominated for three Daytime Emmy awards in the category of Outstanding Writing for a Children’s Program.
Smith is a graduate of Boston University’s film program, and he regularly attends the Summer Writing Program at the Fine Art Work Center in Provincetown, MA. He has studied with such notable writers as Amy Bloom, Elizabeth McCracken and Alice Munro.
Co-Creator, Executive Producer and Writer, Team Umizoomi
Jennifer Twomey is co-creator and executive producer of Nickelodeon’s new, interactive, animated preschool series, Team Umizoomi. Jennifer is also a writer for the series.
Twomey joined Nickelodeon in 1996 as an executive producer and writer for the landmark interactive series Blue’s Clues and was instrumental in the development and success of the Peabody Award-winning, Emmy-nominated series. She also co-developed the puppet-based spin off, Blue’s Room, and served as executive producer and writer for that series as well.
In 2004, Twomey accepted the position of executive in charge of development and production for Nickelodeon Preschool Television, overseeing current series and developing new content. While there, she launched Jack’s Big Music Show and was the creative director for over 50 live action music videos that were featured segments on the show. The distinctive music videos, showcasing an eclectic group of preschool and contemporary artists, went on to become a ubiquitous interstitial series and helped establish Nickelodeon’s preschool music brand. She worked with co-production partner Sesame Workshop on the development and production of the award-winning series The Upside Down Show and also developed the interstitial series Chickie Poo and Fluff.
In addition to her work at Nickelodeon, Twomey is a co-creator of the Emmy-nominated series Super Why, which airs on PBS.
Twomey lives in New York City and has three young children.
